What’s the Prosnore?

Prosnore 1 on top of storage caseCreated with the help of Dr. Gregerson, the Original Prosnore is a custom fitted mouthpiece that is best classified as a Mandibular Advancement Device. Its unique feature is the ability to have your device custom fitted in a laboratory. So far, no other seller is offering such a service.

Unlike the majority of oral appliances that are being sold, the creators of Prosnore actually send you a custom mold kit which includes teeth trays and molding clay. Simply follow the instructions and mail your impressions to the laboratory so that your custom appliance can be created and mail back to you within 2-3 weeks.

The jaw advancement feature is like no other currently available. While most snoring mouth gear relies on the entire set of upper teeth to hold the lower jaw forward, the Original Prosnore only fits the lower teeth and uses a protruding extension which is secured in front of the upper teeth and gums. This extension holds the lower tooth line slightly in front of the upper,  tightening the throat muscles and preventing excessive tissues from blocking the airway. This creates less bulk in the mouth, making it more comfortable to wear.

The company has been selling the Prosnore since around 2007, which is a bit longer than average when compared some of the other devices that are available.

Sleep Apnea and the Prosnore

Man laying in bed next to woman wearing CPAP maskOn their website, they suggest that Prosnore is capable of eliminating your snoring and sleep apnea. In general, manufacturers of similar equipment steer clear of using such verbiage due to liability issues. In fact, you will be hard-pressed to find anyone selling this type of product to make such claims.

While the use of oral appliances has been proven in a clinical setting to reduce or eliminate the common condition of obstructive sleep apnea, doing so without the supervision of your doctor or dentist can be an extreme risk to your health. Only certain cases of obstructive sleep apnea may be treated using a mouthpiece. It is even riskier to self-diagnose yourself with sleep apnea and self-treat using an over-the-counter MAD. There is a possibility that you could have central sleep apnea which requires a much different approach to treatment.

Whether you are already diagnosed with OSA or believe that you have OSA, it is extremely important that you consult with your doctor before using the ProSnore or any other device to eliminate your snoring. Treating an un-diagnosed issue or known issue with anything not recommended by your physician is never a good idea. Remember, there can be several reasons for snoring, some serious, some not.

User reviews and testimonies

Review speech bubbleAs with any other stop snoring gadget, you are going to find various reviews scattered throughout the internet. Most who have commented on the ProSnore are satisfied with the workmanship and effectiveness of the mouthpiece. The Prosnore delivers as promised, stopping snoring in most cases.

One company has been selling this device on eBay since 2007 and after looking into their reviews it appears as if they have absolutely zero complaints pertaining to the actual product in the past 12 months. Overall, they have a feedback score of 98.9% after over 3,500 transactions. Keep in mind that the seller also sells a few other products aside from the Original ProSnore.

There are of course those who snore heavily who do not benefit from using this appliance. There are a few who report issues with it not working as well (falls out at night)  as those who have a difficult time breathing through their nose due to the lack of mouth ventilation.

Honest opinion of the Prosnore

Thumbs up, thumbs downWhile no anti-snoring product is perfect, I am fond of this particular device for several reasons. Here is a list of characteristics that I approve of:

  • Created with the assistance of an actual doctor. Dr. Gregerson has a reputation to uphold and by endorsing this product he is putting his name on the line. He is a dentist who is on the board of the American Dental Association.  This is assurance.
  • This is the only product that allows the buyer have a custom-made impression created in a laboratory. This creates a more precise fit, unmatched by others who offer a simple boil and bite impression that is completed in-home using hot water.
  • Since it has a low profile and does not require the use of an upper tray, it doesn’t occupy much space in the mouth. This makes wearing it comfortable.
  • Prosnore has been sold for more than 7 years now. In an industry where most snoring mouthguards have been around for a couple of years or less, you are dealing with a company that has stood the test of time.
  • $120 is 1/3 the cost that you would pay to have the same oral appliance created by your dentist or doctor. While not a $30 device, you are getting a professional product at a reduced price.

On the downside, it does not permit one to breathe freely through their mouth. This can be a deal breaker if you have a tendency to breathe orally while sleeping. Fortunately, they have created the ProSnore II which actually comes with breathing holes in order to allow free breathing.

Overall this is an impressive product that seems to work great for those who have tried it.

I would recommend the use of this snoring appliance to anyone who is able to afford the $120 price tag and also has the spare time to wait for it to arrive in the mail after taking an impression. You can get more information and purchase one by visiting the Prosnore website.

If time is an issue or you would like to save a few dollars, the Good Morning Snore Solution is an excellent alternative that I have personally tried out. I’ve created a full review of this unique device with lots of great information.

It can be used the day that you receive it in the mail and does not have to be fitted, in a lab or at home. It features a simple one size fits all design and takes a different approach to snoring prevention. I’ve tried both jaw advancement devices and tongue stabilizing devices and have had luck with each type. I have however found that tongue stabilizers such as the GMSS are just as effective as traditional mouthpieces yet take up very little room in your mouth.

Which mouthpiece should I buy?

The anti-snoring mouthpiece is one of the most highly effective stop snoring solutions available. With over 100 different products to choose from, deciding which one to buy can be challenging.

As a snorer and product reviewer, I have tried many of these devices and created a list of recommended devices that will help to make this decision much easier.
